Although we have the middle of summer, Ekaterina Kurakova took part in the first skating competition Minto Summer Skate 2019.
For our representative, who trains in Toronto on a daily basis, it was a very good test before the upcoming season. Already after the short program, she was in the lead with the result of 61.70 points. The free program, for which she collected 121.07 points, sealed her first position in the competition.
Ekaterina Kurakova received permission from the International Skating Union (ISU) to represent Poland. Thus, there are no obstacles to represent our country in the most important skating competitions.
Katia since March 2017 is a player of MKS Axel Toruń and the current Polish Champion of Senior and Junior cathegory. She trains with Brian Orser in “Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club”.
Ekaterina Kurakova turned out to be unrivaled in Junior Figure Skating Championships in Oświęcim. She won the gold medal obtaining for both programs 182.64 points – that is 70 points more than Oliwia Rzepiel’r result who took second place. This is another championship title, won by the young Russian skater since she started to compete as a Polish representative.
From the new season 2019/2020 Kurakova will represent our country also at the most important ISU international competitions.
Ekaterina Kurakova, for the first time starting for Poland, immediately reached for the title and gold medal in the Polish Championships and the Four Nations Championships held in Budapest (14-15.12.2018).
Sixteen-year-old Russian, who represents MKS Axel (Toruń), defeated last year’s Polish Champion – Elżbieta Gabryszak. In both the short and the free program, she presented a very high level, achieving a total score of 178.80 points. In the Four Nations Championship classification, she was also the best, ahead of the second Czech player Eliska Brezinova by over 33 points.
